Living Sky Casino Powwow

The Client

SIGA (Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority) operates in the entertainment industry with locations across Saskatchewan. In February 2025, they hosted the Living Sky Casino Powwow in Swift Current, an amazing event showcasing culture and tradition.

Project Overview

The powwow was a significant event even extending internationally with attendees and contestants even coming from the US. In order to document the event and produce print-worthy images SIGA hired the Landing Studio to capture photo and video of the powwow. From a half-day shoot, the Landing Studio delivered several videos and a large library of photos.

It was a unique opportunity to be able to film and photograph such visually captivating subject matter that also holds so much meaning. The Landing Studio appreciated the opportunity to be able to portray humanism and explore colour in photo and video through this project. In order to express the drama of some of the dancing, photo and videos were taken at an angle where the dancers were backlit, creating high contrast visually striking images.

Some of the challenges with particular project included the lighting in the facility, and the fact that events had to be captured in the moment. To explain, the lighting in the facility was very flat, and this made it more difficult in editing to make the photos pop. As for capturing events in the moment, dances sessions per group were short, and once a moment was passed, there was no going back to reshoot, being ready and in the right place to get to not miss anything is difficult.

Overall, the clients were happy with the results, and the Landing Studio is proud to have this project in our portfolio and pleased to have been able to deliver a great amount of photos with visual impact.
